Timboon P-12 School is a welcoming and inclusive government school providing quality education from Foundation (Prep) to Year 12 in the heart of south-west Victoria.

High-quality Teaching and Learning
At Timboon P-12 School, we believe that every student can learn and make progress through high-quality teaching, a carefully designed curriculum and the right support.
Our curriculum is intentionally sequenced to build strong foundational knowledge and skills, enabling students to develop increasingly sophisticated understanding as they progress through their schooling.
Explicit teaching practices, aligned with the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model 2.0, are central to our approach. Teachers clearly explain and model new learning, provide opportunities for guided and independent practice, and use assessment and feedback to respond to students’ needs.
Our teachers work collaboratively in effective teaching teams, sharing expertise, planning learning sequences and continually improving their practice. This approach supports consistency, high expectations and active, engaging classrooms where students are supported and challenged.
English and Mathematics
Strong literacy and numeracy skills are essential foundations for success across all learning areas.
In the early years, students develop their reading and spelling skills through systematic, explicit instruction using Phonics Plus. As students progress, they deepen their understanding of language through vocabulary development, word structure and word origins. In Years 3 to 6, teachers support continued progress with spelling, word knowledge and vocabulary, including through use of the Word Origins program.
Our English curriculum is built around rich, high-quality texts that develop students’ knowledge, comprehension, writing and critical thinking. Learning is carefully structured to ensure that challenging and engaging texts are accessible to all students.
In primary Mathematics, our Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP) provides a structured and sequential approach to developing mathematical knowledge, fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Across the secondary years, specialist teachers build on these foundations, supporting students to develop deeper subject knowledge and prepare for senior studies and future pathways.
A Broad and Engaging Curriculum
Our Foundation to Year 12 structure provides a continuous learning journey, with carefully planned transitions and opportunities for students to build lasting relationships within the school community.
Primary students benefit from a strong focus on English and Mathematics alongside specialist learning experiences including Science, Physical Education, Japanese, Digital Technologies, Visual Arts and Performing Arts.
In the secondary years, students access a broad curriculum delivered by specialist teachers across the key learning areas. Students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop new capabilities and make informed decisions about their future learning.
Senior School and Future Pathways
We are proud to provide a wide range of senior secondary pathways that support students to pursue their individual goals.
These include the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), and Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Our school offers on-site VET programs in Engineering, Music and Hospitality, with access to additional vocational programs through our local Corangamite Trade Training Cluster partnership.
Students also benefit from careers education, work placement opportunities, vocational pathway planning and individual guidance as they prepare for further education, apprenticeships, training or employment.
Student Wellbeing and Positive Learning Environments
We recognise that students learn best when they feel safe, connected, supported and ready to learn.
Our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach establishes clear expectations for behaviour and explicitly teaches the positive behaviours that support respectful relationships and productive learning environments.
Our wellbeing and inclusion programs include Respectful Relationships, emotional literacy education and year-level learning focused on the social and emotional needs of students as they develop.
A tiered approach to wellbeing provides support according to student needs, from school-wide programs through to targeted group interventions and individual assistance.
Year Level Coordinators, classroom teachers and our dedicated wellbeing staff work together with students, families and external services to ensure students are supported academically, socially and emotionally.
We are committed to creating an inclusive school community where differences are respected, every student is valued and everyone has opportunities to participate and succeed.
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
We believe that a well-rounded education provides opportunities for students to discover their interests, develop their talents and contribute to their community.
Students can participate in a wide range of sporting competitions, camps, excursions, leadership opportunities, instrumental music and performing arts experiences.
Our school band program, available from Year 6, provides opportunities for students to develop musical skills, perform together and build confidence through collaboration.
The Timboon Agriculture Project (TAP) is a distinctive part of our school’s identity, connecting students with our region’s agricultural heritage and providing valuable practical learning experiences.
Our extensive grounds, agricultural facilities, sporting spaces, school and community library, and specialist learning environments further enrich the opportunities available to students.
Student leadership is encouraged throughout the school, with opportunities including School Captains, House Captains and Student Representative Council positions. These roles help students develop their voice, responsibility and capacity to make a positive contribution.
Connected to Our Community
Our connection to the Timboon district is a defining feature of our school.
We value strong partnerships with families, local businesses, agricultural industries, sporting organisations, community groups and support services.
Our ongoing connections with Timboon and District Healthcare, Corangamite Shire and other community partners enhance student learning, wellbeing and opportunities beyond the classroom.
The shared School and Community Library and sporting facilities are examples of the important relationship between our school and the wider community.
