Technology - Wood

In Design and Technologies students can select from a diverse range of elective units that exposes them to a variety of materials, techniques, processes, tools and equipment using wood and metal. They develop knowledge and confidence to critically analyse and respond creatively to design challenges using the design process. A design brief is presented to or formulated by students identifying the client and the problem. They investigate ideas, generate and refine ideas, plan and manage, produce and evaluate designed solutions.

Aesthetic, functional and sustainability factors, as well as the economic, environmental and social impacts of technological change are all taken into consideration as part of this process. ICT is used in both the research and design of ideas. In addition, students are made aware of the properties of the materials they handle and of safe working practices.

Year 7-10 elective units lead to VCE Product Design and Technology, Units 1-4.
